How to Type in Pinyin and Convert to Chinese in
Windows

Many of you have enquired about how to type in pinyin and convert it in Chinese characters. I thought many of you would benefit from having a tutorial on how to do just that. This is a simple tutorial on how to type Chinese.

You will first need to have installed East Asian Languages in your Windows. If not, please visit how to install Chinese fonts in your windows.

Once you have Chinese fonts installed. You can now follow the instruction below:

  1. Open the Control Panel window.
  2. Once Control Panel window is open, choose Regional and Language Options.
  3. Choose the Languages tab.
  4. Click on the Details button.
  5. A new window named: Text Services and Input Languages will appear.
  6. Click on Add button on the right.
  7. At the top left hand corner, you will see a pull-down menu named: Input Languages.
  8. Choose Chinese (PRC).
  9. You will see Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0 appear on the first pull-down menu.
  10. Click on OK.
  11. Then OK again to close the window.
  12. When you wish to use this input method, you need to find your language bar.
  13. At the language bar, click on the EN button. You will now be able to choose between English and Chinese.
  14. Choose Chinese. Now you can type in pinyin and convert it into Chinese.
